60,000 Marines landed in North China in the period immediately following the Japanese surrender in 1945.  This will be the first of a separate category on this site.  The "Incident" referred to here was the most serious clash between the Marines and Mao Tse Tsung's  ("Mousey Tongue" as we Marines called him)  8th Route Army.  A great deal of  blood was shed the night of 5/6 April, 1947, some of it from Marines.  Never heard of this?  Read on....

c. FRANK MITCHELL

If you can't be a hero, it's nice to have known Marines who were.  Frank qualified for the status of "hero" many years before he became one officially.  Unfortunately, as are the majority of Marines who were awarded that blue ribbon with white stars, Frank didn't live to enjoy the adulation that he had earned.  There is a picture here that I think will "grab" you.

d. Jim Johnson

Have you ever been privileged to know a Marine before he won the MOH? I did....several of them.   Frank Mitchell was one.  Jimmy Johnson was another....

e. Postoak-Marine

In war, wounds come and go, but Postoak's was stranger than most.  Did you ever know a Marine who ate bullets?....Read on....

f. Welcome Home, Sully-Part 1

A 2dLt leaves the hospital in Japan where he was being treated for two wounds acquired on the Pusan Perimeter in August, 1950.  He works his way back to his infantry battalion.  Most of the story concerns what occurred on September 23, 1950.  A third wound is taken by the 2dLt for that war before the day ending.
